A Secret Star Joins the Cast
In an intriguing revelation, director Jon M. Chu said that he himself reached out to a major star through Instagram to provide the voiceover for Cowardly Lion in an unexpected cameo. The actor, described as someone with a busy schedule, leaped at the chance.The actor’s identity was not revealed by him, but Chu teased that the red carpet gala premiere would be unforgettable when the actor behind the Cowardly Lion steps onto it.
Why the Surprise Matters
The Cowardly Lion is a well known character from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and also famously portrayed by actor Bert Lahr. Wicked: For Good, an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, nods to this classic in its narrative, blending the nostalgic with something new. Including a mystery star adds an extra layer of tension and suspense for audiences to watch, and thus making it one of the most talked about things in the film.
Adding New Songs and Scenes to the Movie
Aside from the A list voice cameo, Wicked: For Good has two new songs performed by lead actresses Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. According to Chu, the two songs both reflect on the theme of courage and change, with Grande’s “Girl in the Bubble” touching on the issue of breaking away from protective bubbles.
